One of the most important tools for our veterinarians is blood work and diagnostic testing. Each day at Loop Veterinary Hospital, we see pets that are not their usual playful selves, that cannot express what pain or problems they may be experiencing. Blood chemistries, complete blood counts (CBC), electrolyte levels, thyroid testing, fecal analysis and urinalysis can often tell us if your furry family member may have an issue that cannot be seen with a physical examination.

Blood chemistries indicate how well your pet’s liver, kidney and pancreas function in your pet. A CBC can indicate your pet’s overall health, as red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are all determined, which can indicate certain infections, cancers and the blood’s ability to clot. Electrolytes indicate whether an animal is dehydrated and may be in need of fluid therapy. Finally, endocrine testing can indicate a number of diseases including Cushing’s, Addison’s and thyroid disease. Fecal testing can indicate intestinal parasites that cannot be seen from the outside, and can at times be spread to humans. Finally, urinalysis can let our doctor’s know if your pet has certain urinary infections, as well as diabetes.

At Loop Veterinary Hospital, we understand that you have a choice as to who provides healthcare to your pet. Our diagnostic capabilities, as well as the experience of our doctors, make our hospital an excellent choice for the life of your pet.
